All pupils from Reception to Year 6 children are taught French weekly by Mrs Innerdale. In these lessons children make excellent progress in reading and writing French as well as getting the opportunity to speak French to their peers.
In EYFS and Year 1, simple songs and games are used to expose children to the French language and to enthuse and engage learners.
From Years 2 to 6 a curriculum plan is followed to secure and embed key curriculum objectives in speaking and listening, reading and writing.
In the EYFS, KS1 and 2, all teachers provide incidental opportunities for children to learn and use new French vocabulary across the school day, for example answering the register, counting, singing songs, as well as greeting adults and friends in the classroom. Pupils are also able to access further learning at home through our subscription to Linguascope which is utilised by teachers across the school.
