At St Mary's, we are very proud to be a Rights Respecting School. This week we have been thinking about the experiences of refugees and, in particular, those children who have had to flee their homes.
We have thought about our own and others' opinions about refugees, held a 'Rights Auction' (where we pretended to be various countries around the world buying different articles from the CRC!), and were also very lucky to have two special visitors in class - an asylum seeker and a refugee resettlement officer. We had lots of excellent questions to ask them and their answers have helped us massively with our project. We have been very busy using iMovies on the iPads to create news reports which communicate positive messages about the current refugee crisis - we are going to share these with the school as they will be embedded (using Aurasma) in our 'Speak Out' wall as part of the corridor display!
Well done Year 6 - you have embraced all aspects of this week with maturity and enthusiasm!
