Today we were again visited by Bike-it Ben. Instead of repairing punctures this time, we were measuring the effect of different types of exercise on our pulse rate. After a discussion about healthy eating and the importance of exercise, we then (after many attempts at finding it!) measured our resting pulse rates before splitting into three groups: control (resting), moderate exercise (walking) and intense exercise (running). When we had each completed 5 minutes of our activity, we again measured our pulse rate to see the effect of our activity. Check out the photos to see us exercising (or resting!) very hard!
Today we were learning about place value in decimal numbers, and using this to compare decimal numbers. To do this we used playing cards to play Decimal Battle - a game where the person with the highest number collects the cards! By the end of the lesson we were comparing numbers with different amounts of decimal places - even up to three places!
This week 6 boys from a mix of Y5 and Y6 visited Thorp Academy for the first group stage of the Gateshead Schools 5-a-side tournament. The boys were true sportsmen throughout the tournament and showed great teamwork and respect for officials and their opponents. In addition they scored a total of 20 goals in qualifying for the finals evening later this term - well done boys!
Today we were visited by Bike-it Ben to learn all about how to repair a puncture on our bikes. We learned all of the tips and tricks to find our puncture, patching the inner tube, and even using chalk to deal with excess glue! We then had a go at working in teams to repair our own punctures. This should come in very handy and we are very lucky to have had this session (especially Mr Colling who did not know how to do this before!)
