This term we are learning how to play the Djembe drums. We had our first lesson on Tuesday and we really enjoyed it. We can't wait until next week to learn some new techniques!
This week, we have been thinking about blessed Oscar Romero and following his example. Year 3 have been very prayerful and respectful when visiting each prayer station around school.
Year 3 have been working extremely hard this term practicing their skipping skills. The children took part in the Gateshead skipping festival where they competed against other Gateshead schools in different events. All of the children's hard work paid off as they won the best dance routine!
The children have tried so hard and have made fantastic progress with their skipping skills.
Today Year 3 completed their 40 minute sponsored activity to raise money for our Lenten charities. They took part in a water carry to think about how precious water is and how lucky we are to have safe, clean water.
In Forest school today, we have been working hard in our allotment planting broadbeans and potatoes. We can't wait to see them grow!
Today we visited The Great North Museum to find out more about The Stone Age. We were given pictures of Stone Age artefacts and had to find them in the gallery. We were amazed by some of the Stone Age tools! Our trip helped us to understand more about how people in The Stone Age lived.
This week in school has been Rights Respecting week. We have been learning all about what our rights are and why they are so important. We have been thinking about refugees and how sometimes they are denied their rights. We have talked about how it would feel to leave our countries and start all over again. We thought about the things we would miss the most and the most important things we would want to take with us. We enjoyed creating our own 'leave now' rucksacks, where we said what we would want to take and also words to describe how we would feel.
This half term, Year 3 have completed their Practical Pedestrian training. The training consisted of 2 classroom sessions and 4 outdoor sessions. Supervised by adults, the children learnt how to choose safer places to cross the road, how to cross safely near parked cars and how to cross safely at junctions.
Year 3 have learnt so much throughout their training and the safety trainers and Mrs Gardner were very impressed with all of the children!
Year 3 have made a great start to the new school year and Mrs Gardner has been very pleased with how quickly the children have settled in to Key Stage 2. We started the week establishing class rules, routines and working as a team. Already the children are collaborating and helping each other with their learning which is fantastic to see! We are looking forward to a very exciting year!
This week in school it is British Values week. The children have been learning about the 5 British Values and Year 3 have been focusing on The Rule of Law. They have had lots of discussion and shared ideas in groups about the reasons we have rules and what life would be like without them. Although the children thought it would be great at first without rules, they quickly realised that's not the case when they went into the hall and got given a ball to throw but there were no rules. They became very frustrated!
The children have learnt that they are very lucky to live in Britain and have such strong values.
