Well done to our Year 3 and 4 multi-skills teams who ran, jumped, hopped, threw and caught (along with many other skills!) their way around the St Thomas More sports hall with skill, determination and most importantly good humour! The boys and girls were a credit to our school and made the evening a very enjoyable with their sheer enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
A huge well done to our school football team - who have advanced to the regional final of the National League Cup and will now travel to Lincoln in the coming weeks to play for a chance to go to Wembley! The boys involved in this competition attended the Gateshead vs. Woking game on Saturday, and they had an amazing time touring the stadium, meeting the players and even as the ball boys for the match. Thankfully, Gateshead continued their excellent form with a last minute winner - up the Heed! A picture of the team on the day (kitted out in their Gateshead kits) is below.
The team have also continued their good form in the Blaydon and District League with four solid performances in some tricky conditions in the latest round. Keep an eye out for news about our upcoming exploits in the many competitions we are still participating in.
Two teams from out Year 4 class entered the Quicksticks Hockey competition at Whickham Comp. Equipped with only a couple of extra lunchtime practice sessions, the boys and girls performed to the best of their ability and finished in 3rd and 4th place out of 30 teams. As always, the teams represented our school with pride, determination and most importantly the values of a St Mary's sportsperson by shaking hands and congratulating their opponents. Well done, everyone!
On Friday 10th March, all the pupils took part in an Intra-School Sports competition. Pupils from Reception to Y6 were organised in to 5 teams, who took their names from the sporting values of: Friendship, Respect, Determination, Inspiration and Equality - with team 'Determination' being declared the overall winners at the end of the day. Over the course of the day, the pupils took part in a range of sporting events, honing skills of running, jumping, throwing and more. A big thank you goes to Mrs Needham and the School's 'Sports Crew' who help to lead the event, and to the media team who put together this wonderful video showing what an amazing day was had by all!
