Rights Respecting School
At St Mary's we are incredibly proud of our status as a Rights Respecting School (Level 1).
Achieving Level 1 means there is evidence that (taken from the Unicef standards):
Our Pupil Council represent the school as Rights Respecting Ambassadors, which helps pupils to become actively involved in ensuring that the rights of all (as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child) are met. Our Ambassadors have been involved in work within school, sharing knowledge of the Convention with pupils and being involved in social action, as well as with other Rights Respecting schools in Gateshead. Each year we celebrate a 'Day for Change' which helps to promote the awareness of Rights among our wider school community.
