Maths trail on the Quayside

Once again Dr Maths organised a Maths Trail in Newcastle. This year it was along the Quayside and some of the children from KS2 accompanied by parent helpers had to follow the trail and solve the puzzles. This event is to show the chldren that maths is important in our everyday lives, not just in lessons at school.

Searching for clues on the Quayside

Click here to read some of the thoughts about the trail from children in Year 3 and Year 4.

Summer Term Science

On June 4th, the first day back after the holidays, the children in Year 3 will be visiting Gateshead Nurseries at Lobley Hill. Our science topic is 'How plants grow well' so Stephen Peareth is going to show us how he prepares and grows all the beautiful plants that are displayed throughout the Borough. After a picnic lunch we are going to be shown round Watergate Park by one of the Wardens. We are going to walk there and back so we should be tired but fit when we get back to school. Watch this space for photos after the visit.

Spring update

Year3
Year 3 are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on March 14th. Their Catechists, Mrs McMillan, Miss Hawthorne, Mrs Rix, Mrs Airey, Mrs Cunningham, Mrs Welch and Mrs Stephenson have been working really hard together with the children to be ready for their special celebration. They are sharing the service with Year 3 children from St Philip Neri School, Dunston and the service will be held in Immaculate Heart Church in Lobley Hill. Fr Humble will lead the service and Jack, Harry and Joseph are going to read the Bidding Prayers. Stephanie, Alex and Megan are reading a poem called 'Upside Down' which is about how Jesus turned the world upside down when He died on the Cross to save us.
Year 3 will make their First Holy Communion on June 16th at 10am.
Just a short entry to say thank you to the 'Friends' for our Adventure Play Trail. Year 3 absolutely love it.

We really enjoyed ourselves at The CLC in Heworth where we worked on The Romans and The Planets.

The Romans are coming!

Year 3 have had a great time learning about the Romans this term. To help our studies we visited the Roman Fort at Arbeia, South Shields. In the morning we learned about the Festival of Saturnalia and made cards to celebrate the day with the greeting " Io Saturnalia". This day is dedicated to the God Saturn and it was the time when the slaves and the masters swopped places.
Ikenna and Luisa were crowned as King and Queen for the day.
After lunch we had a chance to dig with correct archaeological tools and found some buried treasure and artefacts. We had a great day and really enjoyed ourselves and we thought Arbeia was a really excellent Fort.

Then we had a visitor from the Young Enterprise Organisation who taught us all about History for the day. The Topics we covered were The Romans, The Tudors and The Victorians. We did lots of lovely activities and had a smashing day.

After Christmas we are going to try to complete a project of our own choice on an aspect of the Romans.

Mrs Barrett

Mrs Barrett is Deputy Head and she is also Year 3 teacher.
I really like Mrs Barrett because she is always kind to me and she is one of my favourite teachers. I really, really, really like her. Mrs Barrett never thinks of her self she thinks of the people around her. She is not selfish, she is really nice.
Mrs. Barrett is really good at RE and French. She loves reading. Her favourite book is The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and Harry Potter.
