The children in Y2 have been working really hard this half term

In November we enjoyed learning all about The Great Fire of London and also the visit of "Zoo Lab" which tied in nicely with our mini-beasts topic.

Later, in the run up to Christmas, we have enjoyed doing lots of craft and making the classroom all sparkly!

In Year 2 our science topic at the moment is "Minibeasts"  As part of this topic we have our "Behaviour Bugs". Every day the best behaved table gets a bug to go on their leaf. We get to tell Mrs Broomhall what type we would like and can even use difficult words like arachnid and crustacean to describe them. The table with the most bugs by 1/2 term wins a small prize. We will see on Friday who will win for this half term. How exciting!

Mrs Broomhall was very impressed by the children in Y2 who completed the Mini Great North Run. I bet they did It faster than the teachers could!

In Year 2 we have been doing peer massage. The movements are named after animals, for example one is called "owl" and another "peacock".  It is good fun and relaxing.

We have also been hatching chicks only 5 have hatched  they are called Knuckles, Paxo, Sonic, Toffee and Scruffy.

Last week we went to their new home at Hall Hill Farm we saw lots of  animals. Our Highlights were  when we went on the tractor  ride, when we saw wallabies and llamas. Then we had lunch in the barn.

We were really sad when the chicks left our class but we think that they will be happy and safe in their new home.

All of us had a great time on sports day. The rain didn't spoil it, it just made us go even faster!

We have also been practicing for our assembly which is tomorrow. We promise you that if you come then you will enjoy it!

Recently we have had lots of wet play times. At wet play we get a big box  with stuff inside like Lego, football cards and  cars

That's it!  We love Year 2 and we have had lots of fun.

 Just a quick post to say a HUGE thank you for all the lovely wedding cards and messages that we have received from parents, children and staff. It is lovely to know that so many people were thinking about us. The balloon from Y2 is still bobbing around in our living room and we plan to use the vouchers that we received wisely when we eventually get a bigger house!

We had a great wedding, a wonderful honeymoon and the children in Y2 are better at remembering my new name than I am!

Mr and Mrs Broomhall

In Year 2 we have been having lots of fun making lighthouses
with a circuit in them. They had a bulb and a switch and light up really well.

Secondly, Year 2 have been writing to their pen pals and we are looking forward to one of them coming to visit this week. In maths we have been looking at lines of symmetry and programming be-bots to go around a maze.

We have also been roving reporters and presented a T.V report on Holy Week.

All of the children enjoyed learning about the author Anthony Browne and we can't wait to finish our puppets based on his book characters.

We are looking forward to doing more exciting things after the holidays.

Year 2 have a had a great term so far. They have designed light houses, learned all about symmetry with Miss Waide and discovered lots about Katie Morag and the Isle of Struay.

Recently they were very excited to learn to start using the bow in their violin lessons.

Mrs Cuggie comes in to teach Y2 violin once a week. She thinks that they are doing great!

"Y2 are the youngest children in Gateshead who can hold a bow and know what minims and crotchets are" She said proudly.

Congratulations to all the children in Y1 and Y2 who acted and sang so well in our play, "The Most Disgruntled Snowman". Miss Hunt, Mrs Haighton and all the other staff are so proud of you and I'm sure your parents are too!

In year 2 we have been writing to children at Glover Elementary School in Marblehead which is in America.

In art we have been learning all about "Pop Art" and making some great portraits in the style of Andy Wahol. We haven't quite finished these yet but Miss Hunt will put some pictures up as soon as they are done!

Year 2 have been very, very excited about the hen's eggs that they have been incubating for the past 3 weeks. Their patience was rewarded when our first chick was born today at 2:45!

Year 2 have been very, very busy this half term and so has Peter the Puffin!
The children in Y2 have been learning all about Katie Morag and her life in the Highlands of Scotland in their geography lessons.

This term has been an exciting one in Y2. We have been learning about lots of new and interesting things. In science we have learned all about electricity and how to use it while staying safe. We even directed our own T.V adverts to make other children aware of staying safe with electricity!

Year 2 are enjoying being the oldest children in KS1 and are settling in very well. Sian and Thomas are very excited at being pupil councillors and are taking their job very seriously indeed!

Year two have had a busy term so far!

This term in Year 2 we have been focusing on problem solving. Our maths lessons have been very practical and hands on.

We have been very busy this half term in Year 2.

Children from Years 2,3,4,5 and 6 had a very exciting Monday afternoon at Gateshead CLC!

We had a wonderful time at our Christmas party!

We have been really busy in Year 2 over the last few weeks. We have done so much!

We have made a fantastic start to Year 2!

In Year 2 we have been learning all about stories and instructions in Literacy, calculations and money in Numeracy, growth and health in Science, Myself and Invitations in RE and the Great Fire of London in our topic sessions.

Today, Miss Hawthorne got a lovely suprise from her class....

Today Year 2 had a brilliant visit from Dr Ben who came to tell us all about how babies are looked after in hospital, for our science topic!

Year 2 had a fabulous day at the Centre for Life today! We even met Sporticus from CBBC!

Year 2 are practicing hard for the upcoming skipping festival!

Year 2 had a brilliant time exploring Thornley Woods! We're also practising very hard for our Christmas play...

Year 2 have been working very hard in History this term, and have been learning all about the Great Fire of London. We really enjoyed researching what the buildings would have looked like, then working with our partners to create a big display!

We've also had a very special visitor in our class - an alien trying to get back to his home planet! We emailed his family and received lots of replies to our questions about his life in space. Luckily his parents came to collect him in the end, but he really enjoyed his stay.

8 children in Year 2 represented the school at the Healthy School awards presentation. They practiced their skipping routine and performed it really well in front of lots of people. We were all very proud of their hard work!

KS1 children are very lucky, not only do they have very elegant new coat hooks and shoe racks but they are also surrounded by a fantastic mural depicting bible stories

On the opposite wall they can have fun finding the rhyming words and phrases, a dog on a log or a wizard with a lizard, although this can take rather a long time to hang their coats up!

This half term Year 2 have been really busy keeping fit! We're learning tennis every Monday afternoon, and recently took part in the Gateshead Skipping Festival. We practiced for ages and performed our routine really well. Matthew and Catherine were speed skipping superstars!

We're also keeping our brains active, and visited Waterstone's on World Book Day. We took part in lots of exciting activities to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Cat in the Hat. It was also St David's day so some people were dressed up in Welsh clothes! Peter and his dad made a brilliant Welsh T-shirt.

Year 2 have made some great friends in Year 6. We love going to Year 6 every Tuesday to read with our partners in Miss Hunt's class.

This half term Year 2 have been learning all about electricity, and how to make a circuit work. We've been extra creative with our Christmas decorations, which come in all shapes and sizes and use bulbs which light up! Very Christmassy! Lots of children have also been creating artistic masterpieces at home, using plasticine. Matthew and Noah made these brilliant models at home. Look out Nick Park!

We've been really busy with Year 1 preparing for our Christmas play : "Cock-a-Doodle Christmas"! Now we're word perfect and looking forward to strutting our stuff!

Well it's that time of year again. Year One are all excited to show off their acting skills with Year Two in our play called, Cock-a-doodle Christmas. There are pigs, sheep, cows and chickens along with the most important person of all, Baby Jesus of course. There will be pictures to follow by the end of the week.

In Religious this term we have been studying about Babies and initiation. We had a visit from Fr Humble to talk to us about Baptism. We also had a visit from Rosa Jane Pears to find out about the things a baby needs.

Today, during mass Rosa Jane was baptised and lots of children turned up to witness this and share her happy day.

In Year 2 we have already spent a lot of time investigating minibeasts, and set brilliant insect traps so we could look at them closely. Our fantastic art work has made a great Creepy Crawlies display in the hall so the rest of the school can see our good work! We have welcomed four new members of the class this year .... five if you count Brian the Lion! He goes home with a different person every night and tells us his tales thorugh his home/school diary. All the children love trying hard to climb the table-point beanstalk by working hard and helping eachother. It's always fun getting a reward!
