Well done to our budding musicians for such a wonderfully tune-filled afternoon! A packed audience was treated to renditions from our violinists and guitarists from KS1 and 2, as well as a samba performance from Year 3. The afternoon was a celebration of the gifts and talents of all our pupils, and we hope that all our pupils will continue their passion for music for a long time to come!
As part of our Artsmark journey, each class created artwork linked to their chosen animated Disney movie performed during our summer musical extravaganza. This included Lion King masks from Reception, Mary Poppins style hats and umbrellas in Year 1, Beauty and the Beast inspired stained glass windows in Year 2, Little Mermaid shell necklaces in Year 3, puppets and papier-mache Pinocchio heads in Year 4, origami jungle animals created by Year 5 and Arabian lanterns and magic carpet designs from our Year 6 pupils! The children had opportunities to work with a range of materials and explore different techniques, as well as work with specialist artists such as a Chinese artist and African drummer. As you can see, our pupils created some stunning artwork and should feel very proud of what they have achieved!
Last week, as part of our Artsmark journey, we had some special visitors in school: Lip Lee, a Chinese artist and Fanuel, an African drummer and gumboot dance artist. The artists delivered some exciting workshops within each year group across school, lending a multi-cultural twist to our Disney animation theme for this year's Summer Musical Showcase and our forthcoming creative arts week.
Children also learned about Chinese traditions and culture during a special assembly led by Lip Lee on Monday afternoon, participating in some tai chi moves to help calm the mind in preparation for a busy and productive afternoon ahead!
