Year 1 Firefighters!

« A GREAT BIG THANK YOU! | Main | Stars of the Week 10th June 2011 »

Year 1 had a great afternoon learning all about fire safety...

We had a visit from Fireman Lenny from Swalwell Fire Station, who came to teach us all about how to keep our houses safe, and what to do if there id a fire. We practiced shouting "GET OUT, CALL THE FIRE BRIGADE and STAY OUT!" so loudly, that even Year 6 could hear us! We also learned the rhyme:

"Matches, lighters never touch -

they can hurt you very much!"

Here we are finding out about hazards around the home..

Hazards in the home..

...and we tried on all the parts of a firefighter's uniform.

Matthieu in the boots and leggings. Olivia modelling the fire hood! Jessica in the reflective fire tunic. Taylor in the fire fighting gloves. Paige is somewhere under this helmet!

The whole gang!

Ollie and Rebecca received this certificate on behalf of our class. It says that we are all now "Junior Fire Safety Officers for Tyne and Wear Fire & Rescue Service"!

Receiving the certificate!

We learned an awful lot. Don't forget to check the batteries in those smoke alarms!!!
