Year 2 have been very, very excited about the hen's eggs that they have been incubating for the past 3 weeks. Their patience was rewarded when our first chick was born today at 2:45!
They had watched the chick and one of his or her brothers or sisters peck away at their eggs all day. Then, suddenly Ali pushed his way out in to the incubator with a lout cheep! After that he had a stretch and a rest after all that hard work pecking!!!
Sarah, with the help of her friend Daisy named the chick Ali, (they wanted to call it Alice after Mrs Haighton's baby but went for Ali as we don't know if its a boy or a girl).
Ali will stay in the incubator for 24 hours before going in to the brooder where the children can see Ali more closely.
some of the other eggs are showing signs of cracking and moving so hopefully Ali will have some brothers or sisters soon! I bet Ali and Y2 can't wait!
