Spring Term in Year 5

« More Fun In Y6 | Main | Year 4 Multi-Skills Competition »

In Year 5 we have been very busy. We are together as a whole class now and have started all new topics for the new term. 6 lucky pupils have taken part in FLS and are enjoying it very much.

We are now studying Ancient Greece in History. We had an excellent day on Thursday 24th January when a local historian came in for the afternoon and talked to us about Ancient Greece and what it would be like to live in Greece at that time.

We all dressed up in greek clothing and looked at Greek art. One of my favourite parts was where we tasted Greek food. We tried olives, roasted pepper, humous, flat bread and figs. It was delicious, but all did not agree!!

We have also been on the Maths Trail at the Metro Centre on 31st January. We walked all around the Metro Centre following clues and investigating maths problems. It was a fantastic day and we were delighted to be under cover thanks to the weather!

We are currently one of only 3 schools in Gateshead to be taking part in the Gateshead Schools Book Awards. We are currently reading our second book and have been reviewing our first on the internet. You can read some of our reciews at http://www.asaplive.com

We are looking forward to the Tennis Fun Day later this half term, the Athletics challenge and the Indoor Athletics competition which will be coming up soon for selected children.

This is briliantl all the information is on this webpage.

Great website!

That looks fun!
but what are they doing?

The greek day was very good. We were dressed up in weird clothes because we were learning about the ancient Greeks not modern day Greeks.

I thought Greek day was really fun. It would be nice to have some more opportunities to do things like that.

I was at the Greek day and think the lady who came in was a really good actor an showed us that she knew a lot about the Greeks and got us encouraged to do the project. She brought in things that the Greeks wore and fight with. The armour was a replica but it was very heavy and rusty.
