GRRRRROWL!

GRRRRROWL!

That was the sound to be heard regularly in Reception class over he last half term.

Our study of BEARS was of great interest to the children – why not ask them for some facts about Polar, Grizzly, Panda, and Koala and of course the cuddly Teddy Bears-to see what they can remember. Be prepared for a few GROWLS in between!

We covered many Foundation Goals during our topic – we made sketches of Dylan’s bear, painted pictures from observation and from memory. The children used cutting and sticking skills to make a collage.

We investigated number, shape and size through Teddy Maths

The children brought their bears to school and told us what they were made of, what they were called and how they were feeling. We sang Teddy Bear songs to make them feel at home.

Our history table was delightful and thanks to parents and grandparents who shared (and trusted) us with their precious Teddies.

Thank you to all who helped look after Ellie and Sam Bears on their sleepovers – I worry about them when they stay out! We heard all about their adventures on their return.

Our Three Bears Cottage was very popular and led to writing opportunities. Some children made porridge and recorded their work in their recipe books.
I took Baby Bear with me to Madrid on my school link plan and he told the Spanish children all about us.

The topic of course culminated in the trip to the Bear Workshop (we took our bears with us) and made our very own Class Bear. We named it SYD DIXON after our Cook and Caretaker (they were delighted!) Thank you Mrs Smith and Cochrane for your help. We then parked ourselves in the Mall and had a super Teddy Bear’s Picnic. We left the area very tidy and people commented on how good the children’s behaviour was – I agree!

A big thanks again to all our parents who continue to help in class!

Lastly, we were very sad to say goodbye to Henry who has moved back to Southampton. Don’t worry, he took his Teddy Bear with him! His mum called in tosay he has settled very well and to thank the children for the lovely card. He is hoping to stay in touch with Jonah and his Buddy Adam. I am sure you will join me in wishing the family well in the future.
!Hasta la vista Henry!
