Mrs Wright Year One

The children in Year One have worked so hard this year. In September they began “grown up writing and joined the letters together which is not as easy as it sounds.
During the 1st term we looked at dinosaurs, what they ate and where they lived. This was very exciting and sparked off many interesting stories and pictures.
Mrs Wright and Mrs Barrett went on a visit to our link school in Picardie in France and they sent us all Christmas cards and letters and we have tried to write a little French back to them.
Our Christmas performance took us around the world sharing all the songs that other children sing to celebrate Christmas. The children loved dressing up and working with Year 2 to produce and excellent show.

Visit from firefighters

Spring term saw lots of visitors, the first from the Fire Officers with their fire engine. The children were able to dress up as fire-fighters and explore the engine; unfortunately it was called away to an emergency, so their visit was cut short.

Next we went on a visit to The Seven Stories Book Centre and learned all about our favourite stories, especially The Gruffalo, who was lurking in one of the galleries upstairs.

We have had our half termly trip to Whickham Library where the librarians have read us interesting stories and provided some really fun activities.

During Lent we joined Year 4 for a sponsored circuit of sporting activities in the hall and raised a lot of money but also had a lot of fun while achieving this.

Sadly Annabel Nesdale left Year One and went to live in New Zealand where we hope she will be very happy.

The whole school have been thinking about water and how precious it is, it has been our topic linking the schools in Germany, France and Kenya.
We have been trying to drink at least 3 cups of water every day in Year One to give us more energy and keep our brains working hard. The children in Kenya are not able to do this so we are very lucky.

Miss Kamau and Mrs Patu, teachers from Kenya are visiting our school for two weeks and we are trying to raise money to make lives better in their country by providing improved water supplies.

This summer term we have been under the sea with stories, poems, sums and pictures. We had a lovely day on a trip to Tynemouth to visit The Blue Reef Aquarium and the Toy Museum, finishing off a very busy year in an exciting way.
