Reception 2006

After settling in well, the children have experienced many opportunities over the year.

One of our most successful ventures has been the Buddy System. The Y5 children tried very hard to welcome your children into school. We hope they remain firm friends next year and who knows after that.

We enjoyed performing our Nativity Tableaux live at the Metro Centre. It was a daunting task in front of such a vast audience, but they rose to the occasion and I was very proud of the children!

The children were engrossed in our Teddy Bear Topic. They all brought a Teddy from home and we learnt so much in Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, Design & Technology, Art, Personal Social & Physical Development, Music and Drama - you name it- we did it!
Of course we finished off with a Teddy Bears Picnic which the children loved.

In Reception we cook every week with Mrs Norman and the children look forward to their turn. We have tasted pizzas – crispies – porridge with honey- cakes – soup – flapjacks to name but a few! They then write up their recipies in their own books.
We learn about healthy foods and children who have allergies.

The boys and girls loved my stories and photographs of Kenya and have learnt lots about the different ways we live and of course how precious our water is. They are enjoying our visitors from Kenya and are learning a song about an elephant.

They are also learning some Spanish words and songs. I don’t know who enjoys this most, me or them!

We have a successful Literacy Session running, which we could not do without the help of our Parents Rota. Thank you again for your time.

Reception children help prepare and enjoy shared masses with KS1 or our Buddies. Some of them have been brave enough to do the readings and we all sing in full voice! Father Michael always comes to see us afterwards to tell us how good we were.

Our favourite (and most moving) mass was about Guardian Angels. Our Buddies gave us Angel figures and we gave some to the Parishioners who were delighted.
